How can we get our weekly chats to become popular?

What I hear all the time is that people simply forget the chats. As a start to solving our chat problem we need to come up with a system for reminding people. It needs to be automated and opt-in so that the entire BookTalk.org community doesn't get bugged.

I'm going to explore text memo services. Perhaps people could have a text message sent to their cell phones 30 minutes prior to each scheduled chat session. It could say, "Reminder: Casual Chat at www.BookTalk.org at 9:00 pm eastern" or something similar.

We can work on the chat topics suggestion too. But as a stepping stone maybe this text message or email message concept would help. We could sign up BookTalk.org for a reminder email service. I'll research this. An email instead of a text could go out and people could opt-in and opt-out of these reminders.

If anyone wants to help me find a quality text or email reminder program please do.

a text message 30 minutes prior would be great, and if there was a topic it could include that. It would also solve the time difference issues. An email reminder would also be great!

I could look for links, but I really don't know the difference between a good one and a bad one. Let me know and I can maybe do some of the preliminary stuff for you.

Thanks for replying. There is always the problem of different times zones. Some people might want a text or email reminder 30 minutes prior to the Thursday 9:00 pm Eastern chat, but not want the text or email reminder for the Sunday 11:00 am Eastern chat. I'll have to think about this some. We might need several accounts.
