Several names come to mind, then I crossed off several who are deceased or out of print. I'm left with:
Michael Curtis Ford. Ford is a banker who has since become a full time writer. He started his fiction career with a novel on Xenophon's Anabasis, and continue with a book on Julian the Apostate, followed by a work on Mithradates and has a forthcoming novel on Attilla.

Jeffrey Shaara. His most recent book "To the Last Man: A Novel of the First World War" comes as his 6th book, 2 Civil War, 1 Mexican War, and two Revolutionary War novels. His father wrote the book that became the movie Gettysburg.

William Martin. I encountered him through the book Annapolis, but he has written several other historical novels including Citizen Washington, Back Bay and Harvard Yard.

|
|

Toronto is doing a read - it's the first time we've had a book for the whole year - it's Michael Redhill's 'Consolation'.
The story is actually 2 stories that twine together, that connects present day Toronto with the turn of the century.
I like the book and am on my way through it for the second time.
If you're from Toronto and are reading the book, drop into the High Park Library on Wed., Feb 13th - 6:30 - we're discussing it there.
Also, look up 'Book Buzz' - that's Toronto Library's online book club - Consolation is on the monthly discussion.
There's also an interview with the author there. |

Thanks for the information Carly, I'm going to read this book (I don't know when though-- I find, like Jan, that since I arrived at BT my lists of "books I'm reading" keeps getting longer--).
I'm a fan of historical fiction, but it's difficult to find quality books in this genre, and that's though I look for them in two languages.
I've read all of Michener's books but I have never read historical fiction about Canada; come to think of it, I've read next to nothing about Canada. |
