Greatest multi-volume works?

Unread post

There have been many valuable multi-volume works written or edited by eminent scholars, such as Story of Civilization by Will & Ariel Durant, A Study of History by Toynbee, Science and Civilisation in China by Joseph Needham, or a translation work The Sacred Books of the East edited by Max Muller, etc. And I think there're still many other multi-volume works, so any suggestions about this matter?

Thomas Cahill"s Hinges of History series (I think there's 7 volumes) is a really interesting take on the development of the Western world.
