Great crime novel for Grisham fans!
This was a sexy, insane look at the criminal justice system. I like crime stories and took a chance on this book mainly because of the great cover artwork. D.A. Diaries blows the lid off the genre. The voice and the story grabbed me right away.
It is about a homicide prosecutor, Clay, who is assigned to a high-profile case in Washington D.C. The complexity of Clay's life becomes more apparent as the complexity of the case unfolds and pretty soon everyone seems like a suspect. It was captivating to read a work of fiction by a former prosecutor with a great sense of humor. This gave the book a realistic and fun voice. I highly recommend it!

Afternoon Bookie3:
I also like the crime story genre when it's well done.
I guess I like many different book/story genres as long as they're well done and cause me to believe in the world that the writer creates.
Who *is* the author of D.A. Diaries and does the author create a really deep world with complex relationships or is he more of a thrilling story writer with more twists and turns than depth of place and character?

Good to hear from you, endobenthic!
Thank you for your question, the author is Kenneth Eichner. That is definitely an important piece of information to know! I am in agreement with you; I can be immersed in almost any genre as long as the voice is captivating and the story is something worthwhile. As far as a deep world versus a thrilling plot is concerned, Eichner does both, but there is a true depth and intimacy that the reader has with each of the characters who are presented. Complex twists of the plot are unfolded as the story itself unfolds. However, with each thrilling turn of the story, the characters' complexities are brought to light. The relationship that each character has with both themselves and one another becomes very intricate.
Out of curiosity, which novels are at the top of your list?

Morning Bookie3:
Sorry for the slow return but I've been swamped.
I think I've got too many novels at the top of my list to come of with a definitive group, but I've read and re-read some Grisham (The Testament, A Painted House, The Rainmaker, etc.) some Dickens (A Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, etc.), some Larry McMurtry (the Lonesome Dove series, the Berrybender series, etc), some George Orwell (1984, Animal Farm, etc.), H.G. Wells The Time Machine and I've been reading a pre-release of the Time & Unforeseen Occurrence series by Jesse Leigh Brackstone.

I used to read John Grisham all the time in high school. I think I'll always love his writing. It's been a little while since I've read a mystery/thriller novel, but I think it might be time get into one after my current book.
If the story line is good and the author knows how to dig deep into the reader, I'm all in.
