Fox and the Peach by Nick Thaler
Set against the historical backdrop of feudal Japan in the 1500s, a bewildered village girl, Momo, suddenly finds herself in a vortex of political interest. Feuding warlords either want her assassinated or captured for their own selfish reasons. Momo possesses very potent powers of the rare kitsune (creature with the ability to transform into a fox) that is unbeknownst even to her. With Japan is on the brink of war, legendary creatures such as tengu, tanuki, kappa and oni are forced to take sides and hunt down the kitsune, while she desperately tries to survive and learn more about her kind.
The book hits the stores in September/Oct 2011. The prologue is getting released tomorrow on an online journal as a teaser. I'll be sure to put the link up here so that you can get a feel of the story and style. I was fortunate enough to read the advanced reading copy. It's fast and captivating, the first of the series. If you love Japanese folklore, plots within plots, action and adventure, this is a must-read.

Watch out for it in the coming months!
