Entry: Dr. Maarten Van Swaay's comment Blog: Lawrence's blog
| Here is an example of how Maarten and I have gone on for years.
Now I wish to respond to three points you make and have made consistently. And I really don't know if we can resolve our issues by email. It may take another fishing trip. But here goes,
i also see another aspect. Larry is quite explicit at laying his agony at the feet of 'the leaders of organized religion' who, in his view, stand guilty of imposing their manmade dogma on him.
I do not believe I say that. I do not say anyone imposed their dogma on me. What I say is, as George Orwell said, that the leaders elevated their belief to be a fact and then insisted I believe it as a fact or I would be thrown out of the club my mother and father, sisters and friends all belonged to and also spend eternity in hell. Other than that, they did not impose their manmade dogma on me.

If I understand the A Cry From the Heart correctly, its major thrust aims at the tendency of people to impose their 'truth' on others. But in many places I find that Larry does exactly that. Perhaps most explicitly he declares that a Kinkul lives behind the forehead of all
newborns, and that those newborns are nothing more than 'Kinkul Motels'. Not only that, he goes on to declare that parents have no idea of that creature. And Larry offers no room for discussion on his declaration.
I've always wondered why you resisted my use of the Kinkul as a metaphor to describe and explain something that, to my knowledge, has never been discussed. i.e., the force, instinct, gift, will, compulsion, etc., that makes every child successfully passing through the birth canal to cry. Since the 5th century that condition has been described as "sin nature" caused by the original sin of Adam and Eve. I'm just saying, empirical science may discover it is an innate self preservation mechanism that if not responded to (as resease (sp) monkey pups do) the child dies. I simply propose that such a human condition of crying to get what you want when you want it, which is initially reinforced by rewarding such behavior is now taking us a life time to undo. And then, the undoing is only marginally successful of a portion of the population. It's OK with me you don't like my metaphor. Give me a substitute.
On paper, Kinkul, as Larry's 'dogma', acquires the
of the printed word.
To me, my Kinkul is no more than an axiom to be considered as a better explanation for human behavior than Original Sin. I have to put it in print to enable other researchers to experiment and consider.
Elsewhere, Larry writes of "Tolerance, together with the
the social imperative of not imposing one's will ...."
notion of 'imperative' coexist with 'tolerance' in a single
Should one tolerate the emperor who lays down the dictate? And what should one do with the miscreant who
miscreant must not be tolerated? Does the emperor
dictate?
This puny little essay cannot and does not answer or propose to answer the question of life in society with a form of government that may lessen the imposing of the will of the government on the governed. You enjoy using the concept of cooperation. If the people could think critically then cooperation could be the binding force for moving society in a single direction, not force.
Always good to talk with you. L |

Entry: Thought's on the American Economy Pt1 Blog: Grim's blog
| You want your chains rattled? OK. Where the body is, there will the eagles be gathered together. Trouble brings out the economic buzzards like yourself, doesn't it, Grim?
Government intervention is what caused the problem in the first place. Like a sow crushing her little piggies, government intervention is always destructive. Fannie and Freddie were set up to "help" low income people buy homes, interest rates were kept artifically low, interest payments were made tax deductible, the derivatives market was deregulated to permit foreign investment in home debt, and deferred-tax savings plans were set up to shift wealth into the stock market. Government intervention created the mess.
In the real world (not the socialist paradise) there is no free lunch. If resources through government intervention are shifted to specific objectives, others must be deprived.
"Economist Nouriel Roubini summed it up like this:
"The existence of GSEs...is a major part of the overall U.S. subsidization of housing capital that will eventually lead to the bankruptcy of the U.S. economy. For the last 70 years investment in housing –- the most unproductive form of accumulation of capital -– has been heavily subsidized in 100 different ways in the U.S.: tax benefits, tax-deductibility of interest on mortgages, use of the FHA, massive role of Fannie and Freddie, role of the Federal Home Loan Bank system, and a host of other legislative and regulatory measures.
The reality is that the U.S. has invested too much – especially in the last eight years – in building its stock of wasteful housing capital (whose effect on the productivity of labor is zero) and has not invested enough in the accumulation of productive physical capital (equipment, machinery, etc.) that leads to an increase in the productivity of labor and increases long run economic growth. This financial crisis is a crisis of accumulation of too much debt ---by the household sector, the government and the country –- to finance the accumulation of the most useless and unproductive form of capital, housing, that provides only housing services to consumers and has zippo effect on the productivity of labor." http://www.counterpunch.org/whitney07232008.html

Entry: Actually Being Normal Blog: Mind of a Raving Lunatic
| Being "strange" might not be that different from being "special," "rare," or "unique;" those could be too touchy-feely for you or your family, but "strange" could mean they loved you, in particular(?)
Now finding similar others as you re-make a family as an adult, you let them share in your treasured strangeness. And that feels right, too, in a different way. (?)
I like being strange, myself, but perhaps not in a way you feel at home with. I'll stay out of your blog if you want. |

Happy birthday to You!
Happy birthday Dear Penelope!
Happy birthday to You!
Libra September 23 - October 22
For Saturday, October 4 -If you have recently embarrassed yourself in front of someone important, have no fear! It is never too late to make a good impression -- at least not right now, when there is a strong energy of generosity around you. For whatever reason, people want to give you the benefit of the doubt. They want to see you succeed. This is a great time in your life for making amends, putting old feuds to rest, and apologizing for past errors. No one is perfect, so they will understand.

Thanks, Chris!
Now you've done it. You've gone and encouraged me. Here come some MORE flowers for your desktop....wait. There's no way to put them in a comment. I'll have to post them in another blog.
I'm not shopping, by the way, and I don't know where that came from, but I'm also not sure how to get rid of it.
