Posted: Thu Jan 17, 2008 11:24 am Post subject: February weekend chat
If we follow on with trying to schedule a weekend chat on the second Sunday of each month, our next chat will occur on:
Sunday, February 10th at noon (EST).
At this point, I would like to hear suggestions about whether or not that time works for you. On our January weekend chat, we had participants from Ireland, Canada, England and France, as well as the United States. Unfortunately, our members from Australia weren't able to join us because (a) the time wasn't convenient and (b) they had other plans.
Given that there is no "perfect" time for scheduling these——it's always going to be inconvenient for someone——some stability is probably in order. I'm inclined to think the noon Sunday schedule works as well as any. However, it's easy enough to move it around if those who plan to take part would prefer a different time.
As it happens, I may not be able to take part in this particular session, as I will be away from my desk, and my computer, at the time it's taking place. I'm going to try to borrow a machine, but that may not be feasible.
However, we should go ahead and begin planning for this. If you have suggestions, now is the time to make them.
And for those who haven't noticed yet, our next week night chat——Jan. 24 at 9 p.m. (EST)—— is on the schedule.
In general, weekends are hard to commit myself to. So, I’ll probably mostly be attending whatever weeknight chats are scheduled. So, I’m not asking for the time of the weekend chats to be changed. But, if we do discuss different times, I’d be more likely to make weekend chats if they were a bit earlier, say late morning—10AM. But I recognize that would make it very early for our western U.S. members. So, again, I'm not asking that the time be changed, just giving what my more likely availability would be.
How would everyone feel about moving the time for the weekend chat from noon to 10 a.m. EST? Rosemary says that would be a more convenient time for her. How about the rest of you?
As I indicated, I may not be able to participate in this chat, which will be on February 10, so the time doesn't matter to me. Actually, it wouldn't matter even if I were participating.
What say you all? Schedule it for 10 a.m., 11 a.m., some other time, or leave it at noon? (All times EST.)

Hi George. I've never attended a chat before (usually due to schedule conflicts) , but I was thinking of joining a Sunday one. However, I live in Oregon, so 10 a.m. EST would mean 7 a.m. Sunday morning for me, and... that's just too early for me. If you could move it to a later time on Sunday --even sometime in the afternoon or evening --that would work best for me. Of course, I know it won't be good for everybody no matter on what time you settle...
BTW, how do chats work on this site? Is there actually a chat room I haven't come across yet? I can't imagine you guys would just email each other back and forth...

Yes, there is a chat room. If you look to your left (as you face the screen) and scroll down you will see it on the sidebar. All you need to do to enter is to be logged in and then click on the icon as indicated. If you and someone else in the forum want to have an impromptu chat, you can do that any time. Our regularly scheduled meet and greet sessions are aimed at encouraging broader participation and allowing members of the forum to get to know one another outside the venue of more structured discussions.
As for the time of the weekend chat, unless there is a strong indication that members who plan to participate want to change the time, I think we'll be leaving it at noon (EST), at least for the February session. That should be a more comfortable time for you.
Oh! Duh!? I see the chat room now. I wonder why my eyes skipped right over it??
Anyway, to answer your question, Ophelia, yes. I have moved from Japan to Oregon. In fact, I did so back in August 2006 to finish my Masters degree in Education. (Hmmm...Now, I need to go read up on your profile! )
