Excellent point by Reza.
I also have said before that this brand of "new" atheism is not new.
Remember? ?

Re: Dawkins/Harris - Anti-theists, Not Atheists
The article fails to address the fact that Dawkins never claimed to represent all atheists or most atheists. Dawkins represents reality and God doesn't mesh with what we know of reality.

Really, I thought you were on board with the "new atheism" label.ant wrote: I also have said before that this brand of "new" atheism is not new.

From a previous thread:
Dexter wrote:"New atheism" is not even really a thing, it's just a few authors that people like to lump together in order to insult them.
ant wrote:And yes, of course, "new atheism is not really a thing"
Just like something is really nothing when you realize something came from nothing.
All this talk of new atheism is just an illusion.

Re: Dawkins/Harris - Anti-theists, Not Atheists
Atheism is merely a lack of belief in God. Either you believe in God (in whatever incarnation you think is right), or you don't. It's as simple as that.
People like Dawkins and Maher, who are labeled "anti-theists" are atheists who are highly critical of theistic claims of all kinds, and who are active in speaking and writing against them. Which I find to be an integral part of the theist/atheist debate.

I like the term "Neo Atheist" better because it's closer to "Neo Nazi." And from there you can go to "subhuman."

You're right, Chris. And I admit that I said not too long ago that no one person speaks for atheism or theism.
I'm not in agreement with you that Dawkin's represents reality. We'd have to no more about him and what other beliefs he holds and then match those up with reality.
And I'm not quite sure there's been a scientific study that's determined conclusively what the nature of reality actually is, objectively. So we might not have anything to compare Dawkin's representation of reality too.
Not yet, anyway.
Correction: Dawkins doesn't represent atheists - he's props himself up on a pedestal occasionally to act as a representative of atheism, and advises people in common to seek out religious people and "mock them. ridicule them"
EDIT:
It would have been more gentlemanly and polite of Dawkins if he would have announced at "Reason Rally" that he simply disbelieved and then told people to get out and cast your vote for secularism.

Matthew 16:15
And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
Richard Dawkins @ Reason Rally
Are you seriously telling me you believe that? Are you seriously saying that wine turns into blood?” Mock them! Ridicule them! In public!

Re: Dawkins/Harris - Anti-theists, Not Atheists
I wrote this on another thread but I think it should go here:
Do we have to have a label? Do the majority of people have a label? If you are not a Theist, then maybe Agnostic? Or Atheist? Or Anti-theist? Do you know anyone who is just... nothing?
I have a friend who was raised without religion. She went to a public school, did not go to church, doesn't know much about any holy book or the rites and rituals associated with religion. She doesn't give much thought to a god or anything supernatural. I asked her what she believes and she answered, "I don't have beliefs."
If I pose the question, "Is God the epitome of both good and evil?" to her, I imagine her answer will be something like, "Huh?" or "I have no idea." and I just think... she's brilliant.
