Wow! How nice of you to take the time to explain all this. I was far from bored, in fact, "fascinated" would be the appropriate term. I never realized how complicated and time-consuming the editing process could be, though I have always wondered about the sometimes long lists of acknowledgements and thank you notes in some novels, which often mention help that could only have come from people who had read the manuscripts before publication. I guess, like most readers of novels, I thought that writers had it pretty easy: get an idea, write it out, send it to a publisher, and cash the royalty checks. Makes me wonder if I have the perseverance and drive to even try my hand at it. It obviously requires a major commitment, but then again, I guess anything worthwhile does. Anyway, thanks a lot for all the information. I've copied it and saved it, and will refer back to it as I weave my "own personal plan of action."
