Contest: Haiku can you?
haiku contest
Here is the basic rule of haiku: three metrical phrases or lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables. Generally, a haiku is a non-rhymed verse, conveying an image or feeling in two parts spread over three lines.
Some examples of haiku --
old pond . . .
a frog leaps in
water’s sound
As the wind does blow
Across the trees, I see the
Buds blooming in May
Contest Rules:
1. Haiku usually uses images from nature, often containing a seasonal reference. However, you can write on any subject.
2. You have 2 weeks to create and post. As the haiku poems are posted I will go in and number them to help with voting. End date for posting a haiku is Nov. 13, 2009
3. Then a week of voting, ending Nov. 20th.
Ready, Set, Go!

I'll post about this on Facebook and hopefully we'll pull in some more participants. I'll make it clear that all entries have to be here in this thread to be considered.

One by one leaves fly, Wild dervishes in the wind From the red truck bed
Edit: 11/27/09
As I reread my haiku, I had the thought it would be better in reverse.
From the red truck bed, Wild dervishes in the wind. One by one leaves fly.

What a great visual Saffron. I can picture those leaves flying off the truck bed very clearly. This is important to a haiku is it not, a clear image, or a feeling? Wow, what power a few lines can have.
I can also feel the friendship in catgirlmissy's piece. I'm looking forward to reading some more.

Re: Contest: Haiku can you?
Hey! Sorry I kinda fell off the face of the earth for a few weeks -- real estate gave me the heave hoe. I am now in my very own townhouse and with an internet connections. I'd like to give one more chance for the haiku contest. I will make a voting post in a few days. I believe Chris has given the okay for the winner to receive a book!
