« Mon Jan 23, 2012 11:06 pm »   So far I'm loving it. The 7-year olds are so damn cute. Just hearing all their dreams and aspirations about their future. Already at 14 years old some changes have taken place and things are getting interesting. I haven't finished the age 14 episode so wait a bit and I'll have more to say.
« Mon Jan 23, 2012 9:19 pm »   So, what do you think Chris?

« Thu Jan 12, 2012 9:58 pm »   sometimes I wonder just how sharp these professors actually are. If they've reached a level of knowledge, written it down, and relied on their previous genius ever since, their brains are probably as trite as their lesson plans have become over time.
« Thu Jan 12, 2012 9:53 pm »   knowledge is the easiest communicable help and provides such value but to withhold it shows not only laziness but contempt for human improvement
« Thu Jan 12, 2012 9:52 pm »   That people become professors because they want to teach is bull... they do it for the paycheck.

« Thu Nov 24, 2011 6:45 pm »   I saw a philips I like. my sandisk has lasted maybe 2 years now, or 3. it still works alright, but it's showing its age. the battery isn't lasting long, it randomly freezes & resets. sigh.

« Thu Nov 24, 2011 9:46 am »   Wilde, my kids have both had Sonys and Sandisks, and all have crapped out. Meanwhile the little Phillips (older than all the others) just keeps going . . . I am totally anti-Apple.

« Wed Nov 23, 2011 11:56 am »   i'm more of a pc girl. plus i have windows media which i'm happy with, & i'd rather not put anymore programs on my computer. my mom has an ipod & itunes, but i'd just rather get something else. just a preference, i'm not really super anti-apple lol
« Tue Nov 22, 2011 11:44 pm »   Yes, you do need iTunes. What makes you not interested in either an iPod or iTunes?
« Tue Nov 22, 2011 11:20 pm »   do i have to get itunes to put music on an ipod?
« Mon Nov 21, 2011 11:19 pm »   Wilde, I have a little Phillips that I've had for over 2 years, $40. I just use it for audio books though

« Thu Nov 17, 2011 11:36 am »   There's a one hour time difference in between Poland and England. I know it is complicated to make things work for everyone, especially that most of users live in different English speaking countries. I do not wish to be difficult by any means, I do appreciate your effort Chris.
« Wed Nov 16, 2011 9:48 pm »   If we do a chat on a weekend around 1:00 pm this enables people out in California to attend at 10:00 am their time. People in and around the UK could attend around 7:00 pm their time It is tough to make it work. I see that you're in Poland so that means a few hours east of England right?
« Wed Nov 16, 2011 6:18 pm »   Did some catching up with a fellow bookworm back from high school. I was totally shocked when she told me she's working at a library :D
« Wed Nov 16, 2011 6:08 pm »   *This would give people from Europe a chance to join in on their afternoons?
« Wed Nov 16, 2011 6:07 pm »   I know US have a couple of time zones as well. It does complicate everything, huh? It's not like I assume everyone would work around my schedule, obviously. But what about Sunday mornings? This would give people from Europe to join in their afternoons?
« Wed Nov 16, 2011 10:44 am »   What time would you prefer?
« Wed Nov 16, 2011 10:43 am »   Aqueda, we did take into account the time differences. Most of our members are in the Eastern United States. Then the next group is in the pacific time zone. 9:00 pm Eastern allows people in the Pacific time zone to get home from work and attend the chat at 6:00 pm their time. There is no time for a chat that will work for people in the US, UK, and Australia all at once.
« Wed Nov 16, 2011 8:41 am »   It would be nice if you could take into account the time differences the next time ;)
« Tue Nov 15, 2011 3:01 pm »   LIVE CHAT: Meet us in the BookTalk.org chat room this Friday, November 18th at 9:00 pm Eastern (6:00 Pacific) to talk about "The Falls" and fiction books in general. Everyone is invited whether you have read "The Falls" or not. See you Friday!

« Sat Oct 08, 2011 11:03 am »   I'm scared of peppers. I am a wimp when it comes to extreme foods. "One more pre-packaged bland, please!"
« Sat Oct 08, 2011 9:57 am »   I've had a horrible experience with a jalepeno pepper too years ago. I worked at a restaurant as a cook and I was in the walk-in cooler one day. I saw a jar of japs so I thought I would grab one and taste it. I simply touched the pepper to my lower lip and I swear I almost had to go to the hospital. My lip was on fire for hours. I think sometimes the heat is concentrated and you can really hurt yourself.
« Sat Oct 08, 2011 9:19 am »   lol . I had a slightly similar story with a ghost pepper I cut up for chili. I went to the bathroom after washing my hands but still that whole area felt like it was on fire. Now whenever I cut peppers I use plastic gloves.
« Sat Oct 08, 2011 8:27 am »   Oh the humanity!
« Fri Oct 07, 2011 8:51 pm »   Speaking of gum, I picked my nose after pickling jalapeno's and almost went to the hospital in pain. Pickling, not picking.

« Fri Aug 26, 2011 9:45 am »   I agree. But it still could change course and they often do change course. Keep focused on the weather and if it does look like it is coming for you....leave. I'm sorry you are the target of this one!

« Tue Jul 12, 2011 6:55 pm »   I just emailed Robert about that. Christ in Egypt doesn't have numbered chapters (as far as I can tell) so I'm not sure how the forum should be organized. I will leave that up to Robert.

« Sat Jun 18, 2011 9:08 pm »   I like most of my food served to me....I am not so much a humter or a gatherer :)
« Sat Jun 18, 2011 3:25 pm »   and then you grab it when opportunity affords itself.
« Sat Jun 18, 2011 3:24 pm »   the rodeo is basically dragging the crab underwater in a figure 8 as fast as you can so that the drag of the water doesn't permit the other claw from coming around.
« Sat Jun 18, 2011 3:24 pm »   you'll see a hole and a stone crab'll be in there. Then you grab a claw as fast as you can and tear him out. He's gunna be reaching around with the other claw so you have to either catch that claw or do what I've heard is called the rodeo.
« Sat Jun 18, 2011 3:23 pm »   stone crabs make their homes in the shoals. You may get lucky and find one in a lobster trap but it's rare. To get one you have to dive down and scout the small cliffs where the grass and sand meet underwater.
« Sat Jun 18, 2011 3:19 pm »   stone is pricey but aaaaaaaaaawesome
« Sat Jun 18, 2011 3:19 pm »   I can't remember ever having eaten a Maine lobster. Chris, if you're thinking long legs with long small claws it's snow but if you're thinking big fat claws with some black on them it's stone
« Sat Jun 18, 2011 12:00 am »   Is it snow crab o stone crab that is so damn good?
« Fri Jun 17, 2011 9:39 pm »   the clawe meat is far far better than the tail, and the legs even have some meat worth going after. I alwaya hated getting the roe, but my Dad would usually take care of that for me
« Fri Jun 17, 2011 10:33 am »   In Maine, the lobsters are cooked whole. Here, we twist the carapace from the tail and just cook the tail. Some really low income people cook the heads for stews/soups/bisks.
« Fri Jun 17, 2011 10:32 am »   the stick is to harass or tickle the lobster into propelling backwards (they kick and go in reverse). The net is placed behind the lobster so that when he gets frightened and kicks, he's caught.
« Fri Jun 17, 2011 10:30 am »   lmao frog... Well, some people trap for them down here but the large majority free dive for them using nets and tickle sticks
« Fri Jun 17, 2011 7:30 am »   I LOVE lobster.
« Thu Jun 16, 2011 1:49 pm »   how do you catch them? We race them and hypnotize them but I have never caught one....
« Wed Jun 15, 2011 7:00 pm »   but super fun to catch!!!! :D
« Wed Jun 15, 2011 7:00 pm »   it's nothing to scream about
« Wed Jun 15, 2011 7:00 pm »   tastes like rubber,,, and the butter you dip it in
« Wed Jun 15, 2011 3:31 pm »   lobster is very good, especially steamed and then the meat dropped in butter....mmmm mmmm mmm
« Wed Jun 15, 2011 11:28 am »   i've never had lobster. :o how good is it?

« Fri Jun 10, 2011 11:05 pm »   mmmmm bring me back a lobster, one of the few things I dislike about living in the middle, is how hard it is to get lobsters :)
« Thu Jun 09, 2011 10:22 pm »   Plenty of beer, spears, and propane to cook anything we catch or shoot.... yes... it will be glorious
« Thu Jun 09, 2011 7:34 am »   Have fun Camacho. I had some great lobster in CT yesterday

« Wed Jun 08, 2011 7:05 pm »   August is lobster season!!! I'm going home to dive for lobster and we're taking an extended fishing trip down through the marquesas.
« Wed Jun 08, 2011 4:27 pm »   Hello :) Is it already decided when we will be selecting the next fiction book discussion title for August?
« Wed Jun 08, 2011 2:25 pm »   I'm just not sure how to get more people into the book discussions. The forums are busier than they have ever been so we have the traffic and activity. It is the book discussions (supposedly our main purpose for existing!) that are slow.
« Wed Jun 08, 2011 9:16 am »   Sorry about that Chris. I wasn't really interested in the other selections. And I don't really want mine picked if no one else will read it.
« Wed Jun 08, 2011 8:42 am »   The attempt to select our next Non-Fiction book has flopped. We will have to start our next Non-Fiction in August instead of July.
« Sat Jun 04, 2011 9:09 am »   We need more feedback and participate ion the selection of our next non-fiction book. Please visit the Non-Fiction Book Suggestions forum, click on the top thread, read the simple rules, and join the process!

« Mon May 23, 2011 3:26 pm »   dude I was thinking about all the people that died the other day. You know what stigma their families must feel?

« Tue Apr 19, 2011 8:18 pm »   Where is the thread for sad? My 17 year old, yellow tabby cat died this evening.....
« Tue Apr 19, 2011 5:52 pm »   It didn't survive the first page.
« Tue Apr 19, 2011 5:52 pm »   I finished BK so I decided to read Clockwork Orange. I have never thrown a book in the trash so fast.
« Tue Apr 19, 2011 4:57 pm »   It was very romantic.
« Tue Apr 19, 2011 3:13 pm »   candles?
« Mon Apr 18, 2011 7:48 pm »   I don't understand... what happened after the few hours of candle lit dinner and wine...? XD
« Mon Apr 18, 2011 8:36 am »   Oh, we're not close at all. I've just had the opportunity to spend a few days in his company and this gave me a glimpse of his personality and life philosophy.
« Mon Apr 18, 2011 5:26 am »   he represents progress. I didnt know you two were that close.
« Sun Apr 17, 2011 7:21 pm »   I've spent quite a few hours with Dawkins having dinner and wine and good conversation and he is definitely a nice guy. Dawkins reprimanded an atheist that was dragging her 10-year old son through the court system (long story) when in Dawkins eyes a 10-year old is not old enough to know if he or she is an atheist or theist. Parents should not assign such labels. Dawkins has a lot of character.
« Sun Apr 17, 2011 5:49 pm »   it would cease to exist
« Sun Apr 17, 2011 5:48 pm »   Family... Newton didn't have one and he was brilliant. Thank you, Newton... but I can't prescribe your way of life for a whole society...
« Sun Apr 17, 2011 5:46 pm »   if he is then... if his children describe him as a person about his business with little regard for family then I have a small problem with that.
« Sun Apr 17, 2011 5:46 pm »   Dawkins, himself, does not appear to be a spiritually needy person but I would want to talk to his family to see if he is as "cold" as he appears in interviews
« Sun Apr 17, 2011 5:45 pm »   needy* people
« Sun Apr 17, 2011 5:43 pm »   I think that's what I've learned from reading B.K.
« Sun Apr 17, 2011 5:41 pm »   Dawkins is the first step... but like Iraq, we need an extended strategy for the massive amount of spiritually needed people we have
« Sun Apr 17, 2011 5:40 pm »   Because we have moved past an illusion we need something to replace it but it needs to be just as edifying as the illusion we must let go of
« Sun Apr 17, 2011 5:39 pm »   We need to get to that next step desperately.
« Sun Apr 17, 2011 5:38 pm »   The fact Dawkins gets so much play time in America is evidence we're retarded.
« Sun Apr 17, 2011 7:20 am »   Thats cool Chris I understand your reasoning for it.
« Sun Apr 17, 2011 12:35 am »   The atheism forum was merged back into the religion forum. And the Bible forum was merged back into the religion forum too. It was redundant having 3 forums all based on religion, or lack thereof, and I believe it was scaring away people that arrived on BookTalk.org with a desire to talk about books. We can still have our religion discussions in the "Belief, Religioj and Philosophy" forum, but it is in BookTalk.org's best interest to not have the entire site appearing to be focused on that subject.
« Sun Apr 17, 2011 12:03 am »   Ditto StarBurst's question: What happened to the Bible And Christianity forum (and contents)?
« Sat Apr 16, 2011 1:33 pm »   Edgar Allen Poe, let's vote for him instead.

« Fri Apr 15, 2011 3:50 pm »   it was in my british lit class and they were talking about darwin in their presentation. and i guess they didn't spend too much time researching him. >___<
« Fri Apr 15, 2011 3:48 pm »   is it bad that i had to tell someone (a college student!) that darwin did not say people evolved from monkeys?
« Wed Apr 13, 2011 7:54 pm »   ha!
« Wed Apr 13, 2011 4:02 pm »   LOL

« Sun Apr 03, 2011 8:03 pm »   Look on the Poetry Forum for the thread (National Poetry Month Callenge) for details. Basically just post your poem.

« Sun Apr 03, 2011 10:31 am »   Who can write a poem that short?
« Sat Apr 02, 2011 10:29 pm »   Nope, charaters -- letters, numbers, punctuation marks
« Sat Apr 02, 2011 3:25 pm »   I am assuming thats 140 words not letters!
« Sat Apr 02, 2011 2:45 pm »   140 character limit poems needed for Poetry Forum contest

Will have friends over this Saturday to jam.

« Tue Mar 22, 2011 10:12 am »   Thanks, President Camacho, for your help with the homophones. I've told the students to be more mindful of their grammar and punctuation since we are now on a public forum; they don't want to come off sounding "silly". I'll be sure to show them your post when we return from Spring break. Cheers.

« Sun Mar 20, 2011 6:02 pm »   If you're a student: Review your your/you're and there/their/they're... if you can't remember the your or you're rule then just use 'you' because it's always good for a laugh. I stole 'you' lunch.

« Mon Mar 14, 2011 4:46 pm »   I've been watching videos of the tsunami on YouTube and have a horrible feeling that over 100,000 will end up as dead (or missing.) It's simply too early for them to have the figures. But this is a nightmare. The whole worls should be heading to Japan FAST to help.

« Tue Mar 08, 2011 3:39 pm »   how do you thank the shout box
« Mon Mar 07, 2011 9:48 pm »   I don't really know if Dostoyevsky was proselytizing or not.
« Mon Mar 07, 2011 9:46 pm »   Though his writing was admired, many of the critics of the day and even some of his contemporaries like Tolstoy criticized him for failure to take stands.
« Mon Mar 07, 2011 9:46 pm »   Chekhov Chekhov, however, didn't believe it was the place of the artist to make such judgments nor incorporate them into their work.
« Mon Mar 07, 2011 9:45 pm »   PC, artists during this time period were expected to take stands on certain social issues of the day.
« Mon Mar 07, 2011 9:39 pm »   Thanks Suzanne! You got PC to start talking again.
« Mon Mar 07, 2011 5:13 pm »   It's still an incredibly well written book but this small section of the book is troubling for me.
« Mon Mar 07, 2011 5:13 pm »   I was really into B.K. until Zosimo's little death rant. Now I'm tired of all the religious and political whining.

« Tue Feb 22, 2011 5:38 pm »   I mean ok... is she still ok?
« Tue Feb 22, 2011 5:38 pm »   is your daughter hot?
« Tue Feb 22, 2011 8:38 am »   Saffron, glad to hear about your daughter. I haven't heard from my friends yet, but am assuming communication is a bit of a problem.
« Tue Feb 22, 2011 7:37 am »   Oblivion, hope all your friends are fine. I did hear from my daughter again, still ok, but now feeling over whelmed by all the after shocks.

« Thu Feb 10, 2011 12:10 am »   ohh ok. did not realize what forum it was in rofl
« Wed Feb 09, 2011 10:57 pm »   We allow authors and publishers to plug their books if they do it in the correct forum AND don't lie and pretend they're simply a reader that found the book so amazing that they just had to create an account on BookTalk.org to tell total strangers about it. So 7pr isn't spam in that he or she is plugging a non-fiction book in the Non-Fiction Book Suggestions and Polls forum.
« Wed Feb 09, 2011 7:24 pm »   speaking of spam, what's in it?
« Wed Feb 09, 2011 7:23 pm »   chris, i'm pretty sure 7pr is a spam account. :o
« Wed Feb 09, 2011 1:38 pm »   His Blog is his own personal space. If he wants to talk about politics that is his right. Please send me a PM if you have additional comments as we don't need to bore everyone else. Thanks.

« Tue Nov 30, 2010 10:50 pm »   I'm just typing something here so that the last message isn't about seeing a grown man naked. Hmmm... that doesn't work. I just mentioned it myself. :|

« Fri Nov 26, 2010 5:05 pm »   Republicans are for smaller government and tax cuts. Democrats are for bigger government which requires eventual tax hikes to support their massive spending. Plus, watch food prices rise next year.
« Fri Nov 26, 2010 4:52 pm »   nah the republicans would just want to tax me to death... i wouldn't make enough for their tax breaks for the rich

« Fri Nov 12, 2010 3:48 pm »   I second not talking about religion so much. I get it already.
« Fri Nov 12, 2010 11:25 am »   i cant discuss religion sensibly. To form a rational debate against the irrational seems like a waste of time. I don't mean to knock others at all. I really want to participate but I can't.

« Tue Nov 02, 2010 11:44 pm »   Yeah. Scientology is a scam and they should know it. Tom Cruise is a nut job to the extreme unless he's making money off it.
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 11:36 pm »   You tell me.
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 11:32 pm »   So Kirstie Alley, Tom Cruise, Priscilla Presley, John Travolta, and Greta Van Susteren are a bunch of morons? No?!
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 11:25 pm »   L. Ron Hubbard was a scumbag, mediocre science-fiction writer, and generally a bad person. I don't like anything about L. Ron Hubbard, his writing, or Scientology. Anyone who purposely creates a religion to get rich and take advantage of stupid people deserves bad things done to them.
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 10:58 pm »   LOL! Why would you throw it? I thought you liked it? Or were you telling me Thursday that was the worst L. Ron Hubbard book you read? I downloaded the PDF from the site.
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 10:09 pm »   I actually own that book in print and would LOVE to either give it to you or throw it off the Skyway Bridge.
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 9:06 pm »   Hey Chris. This is coincidence. Look what I just ran across (I'm a free member): http://www.free-ebooks.net/ebook/The-Da ... -Dimension
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 8:42 pm »   Please consider donating a few dollars for the kids at the Cleveland Christian Home. Without donations most of these kids will have no Christmas presents on Christmas morning. I know. I used to live there. Check out the link in the right sidebar for more information.
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 8:25 pm »   When not discussing books we discuss religion and politics and every topic you were always warned not to discuss at the dinner table. ;)
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 8:14 pm »   :D
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 8:12 pm »   I thought it was about books. But I am playing "We are the Champions"
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 8:10 pm »   Well, Jim, that is actually our main focus here on BookTalk.org. LOL
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 8:08 pm »   No offence PC. :) Politics & Religion really shouldn't be discussed on a forum.
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 6:26 pm »   I remember which party caused the mortgage meltdown by forcing lenders to approve unqualified buyers for mortgages they could not afford. I remember.

« Tue Nov 02, 2010 5:11 pm »   Corrections: Most Favored Trading Nation status, and CNR = CRA
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 5:09 pm »   President Clinton setup two time bombs before he left office: #1 An expansion of the Community Reinvestment Act, and #2 Giving China a Most Favored Trading Nation. The CNR ultimately caused the stock market and banks to collapse, while our jobs went overseas.
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 4:37 pm »   I'm an almond with wasabi and soy sause. Look up Community Reinvestment Act, read about Fannie and Fredie, read about ACORN and George Soros, look at the $800 Billion Stimulus package, and the hundreds of Billions after that, look at Obama's radical appointments who are self proclaimed Communists, look at unemployment, look at the government getting into our personal lives via Obamacare with the vast majority of Americans were strongly against, look at the lack of hope and change, while Obama has no clue what to do because he's so used to getting what he wants and has never had a real job, look at the racial tension despite him being elected, look at how the Middle East is getting even worse, and look forward to massive tax increases down the road.
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 3:39 pm »   I'm gunna go vote. I'll be back on later. I know these nut jobs are going to be out there with their little tea bags full of arsenic trying to destroy my country voting...

« Tue Nov 02, 2010 3:36 pm »   I remember depressed wages and social services

« Tue Nov 02, 2010 3:35 pm »   I remember who started tarp to bail out big business
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 3:34 pm »   the unilateral decisions, the squashing of science and logic, and the world wide turmoil
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 3:33 pm »   I remember the gas crisis, mortgage melt down, the crusades, tax breaks for the super rich, and wanting to privatize social security when the stock market was in the dumps
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 3:32 pm »   and I can't understand why
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 3:31 pm »   Life under Bush completely trashed our way of life and now there's this fervor to return to that
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 3:30 pm »   What are you talking about, President Camacho?
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 3:22 pm »   gimme a break
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 3:22 pm »   I can't stand it when people don't want you to be their cheerleader. Why would I find anything but contempt for someone trying to escort me off a cliff - promising me I'm going to the promised land
« Tue Nov 02, 2010 10:54 am »   We passed out about 70 candy bars this year. More trick-or-treaters than usual.
« Mon Nov 01, 2010 9:27 pm »   My wife and I passed out a lot of candy. Our neighborhood doesn't get enough Trick-or-Treaters unfortunately. We love to see the kids dressed up each year.
« Mon Nov 01, 2010 8:31 pm »   Let me know how the trig test went today froglipz. 8) I spent the weekend and today doing a ton of chores for my parents. I sort of napped while my Mom passed out candy and the dog barked over and over.

« Mon Nov 01, 2010 7:40 pm »   I watched "ny" pats beat "our" Vinking :) and worked on trig well into the night
« Mon Nov 01, 2010 7:24 pm »   Hahahah, that's really cute. There were a lot of kids trick or treating at my school because the students put on a haunted house for them. We then went to a foam rave.... never again.
« Mon Nov 01, 2010 2:19 pm »   and there was one Luigi and i think i gave him like 5 pieces. his costume was too adorable
« Mon Nov 01, 2010 2:18 pm »   most kids got 2 pieces, people with no costumes got 1 piece and "the look", and people going as superheroes got 3 because superhero costumes are the best
« Mon Nov 01, 2010 2:18 pm »   i passed out candy :)
