Calico: Book 1 of the Children of the Shawnee Series by Allison Bruning
"A man whose heart appears pure shall deceive you. The power he holds over you leads you to evil. You shall denounce the ways of Our Grandmother. Another man comes, whose pure heart beats for you alone, and who has a pure spirit devoted to Our Grandmother. He shall defeats the evil and sets you free."
A prophecy has been cast against her. In a harsh world deep within the western frontier of Ohio and Kentucky, Calico Marie Turner must learn to survive among the Shawnee and the trust the one man who hates her the most, Chief Little Owl Quick as the Wind.
Calico went through a lot through her young life. If you were her who would you have leaned upon for help? Doctor Alexander James McGillpatrick Turner (Lord of England, royal mercenary, physician, murderer, slave to King George) Pierre Jean Lutree (Duke of France, married to Chief Big Deer's youngest daughter, hides his true identity from the Shawnee, lies to France about Calico) Yellow Oak (Shawnee shaman, trusted grandfather, immortal, married to Chief Big Deer's sister, his daughter is married to Chief Big Deer. Chief Little Owl Quick as the Wind (Hates Calico because she is white but is madly in love with her, short tempered, use to be a drunk, has migraines, and very loyal to the Shawnee people.
