FICTION POLL

The poll to select our next Fiction book has been up for the past week and will be coming down Thursday around midnight. About 10 members suggested fiction books or expressed a strong interest in the books other people suggested, but none of these members have yet voted. Please visit the Fiction Book Suggestions & Polls forum and vote today if you plan to participate in the next fiction discussion.

CASUAL CHATS

The Casual Chats have been a great success and quite enjoyable for all that have been attending them. As often as possible I will personally attend the Thursday night (9:00 pm Eastern) Casual Chats, but as I have expressed numerous times I'm not the host or a vital part of these chat sessions. The chat room is open and available for anyone that wishes to enjoy these scheduled casual chats, but unless someone wanders in the chat room first the room will always appear empty.

Look at the Calendar across the top of the forum page (above the forums and below the book cover images) for the schedule. For a full month view of the scheduled chats look at the left sidebar in the block where you enter the chat room. You'll see some new links such as Nov. 2008 Chat Schedule, Dec. 2008 Chat Schedule, and Jan. 2009 Chat Schedule. Click on these.

AUTHOR CHATS

If you'd like to see more author chat sessions please help make the casual chats more active and successful. I am going to wait till we regularly have a minimum of 10 members in the chat room every Thursday night before I start inviting authors to live chats again. We're slowly getting back into the swing of things with these chats. It is important to make sure a large percentage of members are comfortable and experienced with using our chat room before we invite the next author, otherwise during the author chat I will be bombarded with private messages asking for help with this and that. Once an author chat starts I am not available to help walk people through the various features of the chat room. Use the casual chats as a means to become familiar with how to use and enjoy or chat room.

GOOGLE ADS

Most of the Google ads will be removed from the site over the next several weeks. They don't earn enough revenue to be worth their nuisance. We'll start offering private ad space soon.

FREE BOOKS

We have dozens of FREE books to give away to members. I've just created a thread asking for members to share with us all who they think deserves a free book. That thread can be found at the top of every single forum.

DONATIONS

Donations have been thin in 2008 and this is making some of the recurring expenses and upgrades quite difficult to afford. I'd like to thank Interbane for his very generous contribution recently and encourage other members to show their appreciation for BookTalk.org by making a similar donation. We do need your help and even a $5 donation makes a difference. Google and Amazon.com revenue bring in less than $1 per day for us. Our expenses have been over $700.00 just in the past few months. If you do the math it is abundantly clear I'm not asking for donations to fund a personal vacation. BookTalk.org is my passion, but it is very expensive and I really need and appreciate help from you guys.

http://www.booktalk.org/book-orders.php Here is a page showing our Amazon.com revenue. I cannot share the specific Google AdSense revenue or data as doing so violates the Terms of Service for the AdSense program, but just know that it is about 50 cents per day and those ads will soon be deleted off our site for not performing.

Other than Google AdSense and Amazon.com revenue we have no other source of income. Donations are the key to our survival. So please consider clicking on the PayPal link and taking 1 minute to contribute to BookTalk.org. PayPal is simple to use and is totally secure.
