We've got MANY new and exciting features available on our forums. This email will list them, but you'll need to play around with each to really learn how to use them. This will be a long BookTalk.org News email so read the entire email or you will miss out on some really great stuff.
Item 1:
Karma has been deleted because there was no means of displaying the names of those members assigning karma. The end result was that some individuals were continuously giving karma to the same people, possibly friends, and a few people were giving themselves karma with alternate accounts.
Karma has been replaced with a much better system. You will now see a "Thanks" button on every post. Some forums have this feature turned off, but almost all of our forums will allow giving "thanks" to members when you think they have written a great post. And the great thing about this new feature is that the person who gave the thanks will have their name appear at the bottom of the post. You can only say "thanks" one time per post, so after you've thanked someone for a great post the button will vanish. Every member will also see stats under their avatars showing how many "thanks" they have given and how many they have received. There are some other tracking features being installed to keep this new system fair and public. Feel free to start enjoying this new feature. It is a wonderful way to show your appreciation for someone's post without having to type out a response. Sometimes it is nice to just click a button to say, "Hey, thanks for that post."
Item 2:
Digests have been added. This is quite possibly the coolest feature we've ever added. Look at the top of every page, right under the green navigation bar. You will see a link at the far right entitled "Digests." Click this link to set up your own personal email digests.
This new feature allows you to set up either a daily or a weekly email that provides an update on all of the new posts on BookTalk.org. Everyone's digest setting is set to "Off" by default, so you will have to turn it on to enjoy this feature. And the good news is you can personally decide which forums you want to receive updates for. If the poetry forum is your favorite just set it up so you are emailed the newest posts in that forum. If you're involved in a particular book discussion you might want that forum to send digests to you.
Again, this is a highly customizable system. But you have to take the initiative to set up your own digests. I am not about to assume that everyone wants to receive emails about every forum every day. This is your choice. So explore the "Digests" link today.
Item #3:
Guest Books were deleted. Nobody was using them. You probably don't even know what I mean when I say "Guest Books." Don't worry...they're gone.
Item #4:
We've added 25 new blog templates! This means you can really customize your blog and make it personal. Also, you will notice that the BookTalk.org logo has been removed from the top of your blog making your blog look more like a stand-alone blog. I strongly suggest you all click on the "Blog CP" link in the left sidebar and go change your templates to something more exciting. Almost all of the new templates are far superior to our old templates.
That’s about wraps up the new features.
