BookTalk.org Forum Upgrade Information
IMPORTANT NEWS ANNOUNCEMENT
Please read this entire email as it contains important info you won’t receive anywhere else. Many changes are about to take place and you’ll need to know about them.
FORUMS WILL BE UPGRADED IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS
We’re about ready to make the upgrade of our forum software so you can expect there to be some downtime when it begins. Don’t worry if you cannot log in at some point over the course of the next several days. We’ll have the site and forums back up as soon as possible.
PLEASE DON’T USE YOUR BLOGS
Please discontinue using your BookTalk.org blogs from this point forward. We’ll let you know when it is alright to use them again. Our blogs will be undergoing a major upgrade and I think everyone is going to be really excited when we bring them back online. We’re going to actually be using Wordpress as the blogging platform, but your blogs will all be hosted right on BookTalk.org.
THANK YOU FOR DONATING!
I’d like to thank Suzanne, President Camacho, Geo, seespotrun2008, tbarron, DWill, Saffron, shawnrohrbach, and Penelope for donating money towards this upcoming forum upgrade. Without your help it would not be possible, so I want to let you know that your generosity is very much appreciated. Over the course of the past month we’ve had $300 in donations, which amounts to 60% of our $500 goal.
MORE DONATIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED
If anyone would like to pitch in and join the long list of contributors it sure would be appreciated. We’re still short about $200 from the projected cost of this upgrade. Any donation at all is helpful so please consider helping us take BookTalk.org to the next level.
FORUMS WILL NOW BE ON A SEPARATE PAGE
One of the major changes we’re going to be making is that our forums will no longer be on our home page. We’re going to have the forums their own page with probably only one sidebar. This should allow people with smaller computer monitors or lower resolution screens to see the whole forum page without scrunching the middle section or forcing a scroll. Also, most of the stuff you currently see in the sidebars will not be on the forums page, so your page loading times will be much faster. I think everyone will be quite pleased with this change. BookTalk.org has grown large enough to warrant a separate forum page. We’ll have lots of new material on the home page that is designed to entice visitors to become members and join our forum discussions.
PLEASE BE PATIENT
Thanks for reading this email. Please be patient as we make this upgrade. As a general rule - the problems you will soon see popping up are problems we will see too. They will just take some time to sort out. I’ll create a thread on the new forum where you can give feedback and suggestions. Please leave your comments and feedback in that forum and don’t send them through private messages to me. If you have a question or a suggestion you wish to share (about the upgrade) it is better to share it out in public so that other people can read it and benefit from the discussion.
