Hi, I've just joined, and I would like to discuss with others the book I am currently reading: "The Body and Society: Men, Women, and Sexual Renunciation in Early Christianity" by Peter Brown (1988, Columbia University Press). It is a fascinating, albeit dense, discussion of how most, although not all, early Christians believed that sexual expression was a barrier to communion with God. Brown makes clear that sexual renunciation was a major feature of early Christianity, and I believe it is the belief that animates the sex wars in the churches today. I’d be interested in reading other reactions to this book. Pete McNamara
