Hello BookTalk.org members! My mother has just released a book The House by the Side of the Road The Selma Civil Rights Movement by Richie Jean Sherrod Jackson. The book is an amazing story and true account of her personal friendship with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and how her home in Selma Alabama served as headquarters for Dr. King and other notable civil rights leaders as they planned the historic Selma to Montgomery civil rights march during late 1964 and early 1965. This book gives the reader a unique look into how a nonviolent social movement was implemented and the positive effects the passage of the voting rights act had on this country. The nonviolent movement which took place over 40 years ago in Selma is once again being utilized for social democracy today as people strive for social freedom and justice in other parts of the globe. I invite you to go to the author's website http://www.thehousebythesideoftheroad.com to learn more about this fascinating book and the remarkable woman who wrote it. I look forward to learning and sharing as I participate in this forum. Remember reading plants the seeds for a better world!
