Beyond Belief 2006 Video

I came across this video the other day and have really enjoyed what I've seen so far (I kind of skipped around and haven't seen the entire thing yet). It is basically a long discussion between a bunch of scientists and philosophers (mostly atheists) on various topics. My favorite part is the ending with Ann Druyan's discussion of how to try and popularize science more. She also reads a cool quote at the end

It's pretty long (2 hours 12 min.) so it takes a while to download.

I realized that they actually have all the Beyond Belief sessions on google! There's like 10 of them I think. They are very good discussions... I really recommend them if you are looking for something like that to watch.

I saw session 2 last night with Neil deGrasse Tyson who is the host from a bunch of NOVA series on PBS. His discussion was really good... he is very energetic. He pretty much explained how every great thinker in the past (Ptolemy, Laplace, Newton, etc.) has invoked some sort of God, but only at the edge of their understanding; so that small percentage of high-level scientists that do believe in God might want to consider that.

I jumped over and watched just the introduction. The discussion is supposed to cover the culture clash between science and society, is there a God, and if not God what is the replacement for the cohesion that on shared values and morality is based. Sounds very interesting. I will give you my opinion after I watch a few of the episodes. It sounds like it will take anywhere from 10 or above hours to complete the viewing of all the episodes. Anyway, thanks again. Lorie
