About BookTalk.org

About Chris O'ConnorAbout Chris O'Connor, owner of BookTalk.org

BookTalk.org is an online reading group dedicated to quality books, good people and great conversations!

Oh, and we’re FREE! There are absolutely no costs associated with joining or participating in our community.

BookTalk.org has two main components:

- Forums - A place for our members to discuss books and just about any topic imaginable.
- Chat Room - Where we have casual chats with each other and participate in live author chats.

BookTalk.org has forums for talking about our current fiction and non-fiction books. Our books are selected democratically in online polls. All members who have at least 25 total forum posts are invited to vote in our polls and help select our official book selections. Typically, our official book selections are read and discussed for two or more months.

If our official book selections aren’t appealing to you then look through the Additional Fiction Book Discussions and Additional Non-Fiction Book Discussions forums. You just might find other people interested in discussing your book. If there isn’t already a thread devoted to the book you would like to discuss you are encouraged to create a new thread yourself. Just use the book title and author in the subject line so everyone knows what book you wish to discuss.

Once we conclude an official book discussion and move on to new books the concluded forums get moved down into the Archived Book Discussions section. But our book forums are always open and awaiting new input! You can surf through the 50+ quality books we’ve read and discussed since we started back in May of 2002 by either looking in the Archived Book Discussions section of our Home page or by visiting our BOOKS page.

But we’re not just about books!

We’ve got forums for discussing belief, religion and philosophy, arts and entertainment, politics, current events and history, and science and technology. Over the years we have changed, grown, evolved and become a rather amazing place. Our slogan is “quality books, good people and great conversations.” And it fits us well! We’re unique because we’re not a commercial site. Every member matters. You have the opportunity to help shape this community and meet some awesome people in the process. Maybe you’ll make some new friends that will be with you for the rest of your life.

BookTalk.org is all about taking a hard and close look at the world around us and trying to make sense of it. We use books as one of the primary tools for gaining insight into ourselves and this amazing universe. Unlike most reading groups we tend to shy away from the lighter genres of reading. Again, look through our BOOKS page and consider what we’ve read over the years.

Books are the fruit of the tree of knowledge and we’re humbly requesting that you dine with us. Bookmark our site and then create a free account. Most importantly start posting today. We’ll be waiting for you on the forums.

Welcome to BookTalk.org

Reading books is an activity that will allow your mind to stay focused.
