Post 10th grade level presidential speech shoots right over our heads.
put aside the context of this speech.

What does it mean when a president gives a speech estimated to be at a 10th grade level, and it is thought to have been too complicated for the average american?

This is a sad state of affairs.

What would have been better?

:lol: I was joking, too, so no harm done. That was funny.

Isn't this much like how we consider Abraham Lincoln's speeches to be extremely complicated and well-written and everyone who listened to him understood them, even though the average American only had the equivalent of an 8th grade education level? Are we really that surprised to see a downward literacy trend when examples like this already exist?

I suspect that I will get some grief to this because of my position on evolution, but one of the great and mysterious tragedies we have today is that in our cities the dropout rate is above 50%. How much money do we spend on eduction? And, when American kids get to college we have to test them to see if they have the basic skills they should have learned. Why? Stand and deliver showed that even 'at risk' kids who were far behind in basic skills could still learn and achieve at high levels.
